This summer the team made their second annual appearance at the local Benton-Franklin County fair. We worked at the fair for 3 days and totaled over 52 hours of volunteer work teaching children about robotics and helping set up fair displays!
Members worked with fair officials to organize displays for the fair's opening day and used the space the Education Building Superintendent gave us to set up our robot display. We let children drive our robots and educated their parents about the first program to help them find FLL and FTC teams near them.
OUR IMPACT: A Microsoft survey shows that girls typically lose interest in stem by age 15. In our community, we aim to change that. Our work at the Benton-Franklin fair allows us to reach to underprivileged and minority communities in our area and help get them access to STEM opportunities. We specifically focused on setting an example for and encouraging young girls to join engineering. On top of that both our robots won blue ribbons promoting our schools robotics team to new members and potential sponsors!
