The 324 building was used in the 1960’s as a chemical materials engineering laboratory. It helped in the process of recycling Plutonium. It was recently discovered that the building had extreme radioactive contamination. The US Department of Energy has a project to remove the radioactive material using robotic equipment.

The Mock Up building serves as a test site for the robotic equipment, and to train the operators. Our team went on a tour of this site, and it was super fun! We got to go in the control room, operate the cameras, and walk around the mock radioactive site.

We learned about the importance of testing and prototyping in the real world. We got to talk with 3 professionals in the real world about their careers and what they studied. Because this is a government operated site, we were not allowed to take any pictures. These are photos they approved and sent to us.
